Sheep shearing
at WeBerber KM 0
WeBerber Km 0, the origin of our Berber tribe in Morocco, is 36km from Khemisset on the road to Meknes. When arriving at Sfassif we take an 8km track through the countryside.

It’s the end of Ramadan holiday weekend: Eid al Fitr and we visit the family.
We are lucky that they are going to shear the sheep, an opportunity for us to tell you about the first step of the rug manufacturing process: obtaining the wool.

Summer comes and because of the heat it is time to remove the sheep’s wool.
The shearers start working at 7am in the morning. The sheep are waiting in the pen to be taken to the shearer with their legs tied.

Large and sharp scissors for shearing. No electrical machines.
The wool is collected and it is stacked in a pile. Then it will be prepared to start weaving rugs. But that is a story for another post.

Flocks of sheared sheep, ready to face the rigors of the Moroccan summer.
